Vancouver Giants News Release
The Vancouver Giants had mixed results in their 2nd weekend of WHL action. Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum, the Giants fell 3-0 to the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds. It was the 2nd straight shut-out loss at home for the Giants, who did get a solid 31-save performance from MAREK SCHWARZ.
Saturday, the Giants played their 1st road game of the campaign, and they walked away with a 2-1 overtime victory over the Everett Silvertips. GILBERT BRULE scored the only goal in regulation for Vancouver while ADAM COURCHAINE scored the winner with less than two minutes to play in the extra period. SCHWARZ had another great 31-save effort, which included a hi-lite reel glove save off Silvertips forward Barry Horman in the 3rd period while the score was 1-1.
The Giants have looked great on the penalty kill to start the season. In fact, they have killed off their last 15 straight short-handed situations. However, the team has struggled while working on the power play, as they have failed to score in their last 22 opportunities on the man advantage.
The Giants are now 2-2-0-0 on the season and will play their next 4 straight games at home, including this Tuesday against the Spokane Chiefs. It will be the 1st of 4 meetings this year between the two teams, and it will also be the 1st time for 18 year-old defenceman ANDY SCHENN and JOE LOGAN to face their former team mates since a trade between the two teams last Friday.
