THE SAN JOSE GIANTS...begin a six-game road trip on Saturday evening with the first of three straight contests against the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark. San Jose snapped a four-game losing streak on Friday with a 7-1 victory over the Visalia Oaks. The Giants had won a season-high seven in a row before their recent slide. San Jose is 14-7 in the second half - tops in the North Division. The Giants are 1 1/2 games ahead of Modesto (13-9) and 2 1/2 in front of Visalia (12-10). San Jose's overall mark of 57-34 is the best record in the California League.

Travis Denker Returns To San Jose...Second baseman Travis Denker joined the San Jose Giants on Saturday after a stint with San Francisco. Denker, who led San Jose in batting average during the postseason last year, is expected to spend less than a week in the California League. Denker was hitting .243 with San Francisco and will be transferred to Fresno (AAA) once the Pacific Coast League All-Star break has been completed. Meanwhile, Daniel Ortmeier continues his rehabilitation assignment with San Jose. In five games, Ortmeier is batting .222 (4-for-18) with one home run and one RBI.

Starting Pitchers...Chris Begg will make the start on the mound in Saturday's series opener. Begg, who is recovering from a shoulder injury that prevented from pitching during the entire first half, is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (2 ER/12.0 IP) in his first two starts with San Jose. Henry Sosa will get the ball on Sunday in the middle game of the series. In 43 2/3 innings this season, Sosa has struck out 45 batters compared to just 11 walks. The right-hander is 3-2 with a 2.68 ERA. On Monday, left-hander Jesse English will start for the Giants. English is tied for second in the California League in victories (9) and second in both ERA (2.50) and strikeouts (91). Against Stockton this season, English is 4-0 with a 2.86 ERA in four starts.

Giants vs. Ports 2008...The Giants have posted a 9-7 record this season against Stockton. This series marks San Jose's final regular season visit to Banner Island Ballpark. Stockton Ports...The Ports, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, enter the series with an 8-13 record in the second half. Stockton has struggled of late having lost eight of their last 10 games. The Ports' overall mark of 50-41 is second in the North Division - seven games behind the Giants. Stockton is fourth in the California League in batting average (.273) and third in ERA (4.11).
