George and McCue Named to Final NHL Central Scouting List
April 16, 2024 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
NHL Central Scouting announced today its final rankings for North American and International skaters and goalies for the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft. The Owen Sound Attack were well represented with two current players and two prospects making the lists. Carter George heads into the draft ranked 2nd among North American Goalies, while Sam McCue is the 178th ranked skater, Attack prospects Dean Letourneau and Austin Baker join McCue on the list of North American skaters at 23rd and 104th respectively.
George has spent the entire season near the top of the list with NHL Central Scouting and finishes the final rankings as the top-rated goalie in the CHL and only behind Mikhail Yegorov who plays with Omaha of the USHL on the list. While George's 3.30 goals against average, over a half a point better and save percentage of .907 is .015 points better, it is presumed that Yegorov's stature at almost six-foot-five inches positioned him above George.
McCue heads into the draft as the 178th North American skater after putting in a solid season split between the Peterborough Petes and the Attack. In 68 games he recorded 23 goals and 13 assists, and while his offencive abilities continue grow, it is his tenacious play at both ends of the arena that will make him a great pick in the upcoming draft.
"It's great to be recognized, noticed and to have a ranking, but at the end of the day, whether I get drafted or not I still need to work hard every day to get better" said McCue. "I've watched my brother go through the process and whether I get picked or not I still have to put in the work to get where I want to be."
Letourneau and Baker were both taken by the Attack in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection with Baker going 156th overall and Letourneau going 174th overall. Letourneau has spent the past two seasons at St. Andrews College where he has 61 goals and 66 assists in 56 games. Baker has been playing with the USA National Development team where he has tallied 15 goals and 14 assists in 55 games.
The 2024 draft will reportedly be held at Sphere in Las Vegas, with the first round June 28 and Rounds 2-7 on June 29. The NHL Draft Lottery to determine the first 16 picks in the draft will be determined at a later date.
