Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- The United States Hockey League's Youngstown expansion team selected forward Brett Gensler from the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' roster in yesterday's USHL expansion draft.

Gensler, 18, scored ten goals and totaled 20 points in 52 games with the RoughRiders last season. The St. Louis native joined the Riders after playing midget hockey for the St. Louis Jr. Blues in 2007-08.

Youngstown chose a total of ten players in the expansion draft, selecting no more than one player from any one team. Each current USHL club submitted a protected list consisting of up to 23 players from either its active roster or affiliate list. Current teams were allowed to protect a maximum of eight "veteran" players (those who played in ten or more games during the 2008-09 season). Youngstown joins the league along with the U.S. Under-18 Team as the USHL grows from 12 to 14 teams next season.

The RoughRiders are fresh off a successful tenth anniversary season. The Riders, who finished with the second most points (81) and wins in one season in team history, went 38-17-5 and finished second overall in the USHL.
