Oshawa Generals News Release
Barrie, Ontario - The Generals picked up a much needed 2 points in Barrie Saturday night. They beat the Colts 5-1 before a crowd of 3,680 at the Barrie Molson Centre. A pair of goals from Boone Jenner combined with a 41 save performance by Kevin Bailie to give Oshawa the winning recipe they needed. Lucas Lessio scored his team leading 31st goal in the victory. With the win, Oshawa evens the season series with Barrie but more importantly, moves 3 points ahead of Peterborough for the 8th and final playoff spot. With Belleville losing tonight and Mississauga idle, Oshawa is just 1 point back of 6th in the Eastern Conference standings.
Boone Jenner put the Generals on the board in the first. Jenner's 19th goal of the season (and his first since returning to the line-up last night) came at 9:31.
The Generals' captain continued to lead the way in the second period with a shorthanded marker at 12:58 and put Oshawa up 2-0.
Barrie's 2nd ranked power play got back on track moments later. Bailie made a great initial save on Ivan Telegin, but Anthony Camera found the rebound and tapped it past the sprawling goaltender. Heading into the third, the Generals led by the narrowest of margins, 2-1.
Scott Sabourin bought Oshawa the insurance they needed at 11:37 in the third, making it 3-1. Lucas Lessio padded the lead at 17:03 and Scott Laughton capped off a near perfect evening for the Generals scoring his 20th of the season at 17:55. Oshawa's 5-1 victory was complete.
Barrie outshot Oshawa 42-27 on the night.
Kevin Bailie, Boone Jenner and Colin Suellentrop picked up the three star selections.
Oshawa's weekend of hockey concludes on home ice tomorrow, Sunday March 4th, when the Generals look to get even with the Knights at the General Motors Centre. Puck drops at 2:05 PM.
