Oshawa Generals News Release
London, Ontario - Oshawa fell 7-2 to the Western Conference leading London Knights Friday night. Seth Griffith scored a hat trick and Greg McKegg had a 4 point night before 9,046 at the John Labatt Centre. The Knights scored 2 goals late in the first period and never relinquished the lead. Oshawa got some help on the out of town scoreboard with Peterborough losing to Sault Saint Marie. As a result, Oshawa still holds the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Generals' captain, Boone Jenner, suited up for the first time in 13 games in the loss.
During the first period, London scored a pair of goals in the frame's dying minutes.
In the second period, Oshawa's power play delivered and cut London's lead in half at 5:34, when Scott Laughton made it 2-1. The Knights capitalized on a 5 minute major assessed to Oshawa and restored London's 2 goal lead. London added another power play marker at 18:28. Down but not out, the Generals got 1 back with 18 seconds left in the period thanks to Geoffrey Schemitsch. They were down 4-2 going into the 3rd.
London's power play clicked for a third and final time at 12:29 when McKegg gave the Knights a commanding 5-2 lead. London's Griffith feathered an empty netter to complete the hat trick at 18:41. With just over a minute left, Andreas Athanasiou brought the final score to 7-2.
London outshot Oshawa 43-27 on the night.
Oshawa is on the road again Saturday March 3rd, when they take on the Colts in Barrie. Start time is 7:30 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.
This Sunday March 4th, the Generals are home to battle the Knights at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Faceoff is scheduled for 2:05 PM.
