Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League continue to make changes in the line-up in preparation for the stretch run to the Colonial Cup Playoffs.
This evening, Generals Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols announces a trade with the Kansas City Outlaws brings back defenseman Vaclav Zavoral to Generals (along with future considerations). In return, the Generals send defenseman Andrei Lupandin and forward Paul McBrien to Kansas City effective immediately.
Zavoral, a 24-year old native of Teplice, Czech Rep. returns to the Generals for his second tour of duty. He appeared in 65 games with the Generals in 2001-2002 with 2 goals, 13 assists, 15 points and 123 penalty minutes. Zavoral spent two years in the Central League with the Memphis Riverkings (2002-2004) before returning to the United League. Zavoral started out this season with Elmira, playing in 18 games before being traded to the Kansas City Outlaws.
Andrei Lupandin appeared in 50 games for the Generals with 7 goals, 4 assists for 11 points and 63 penalty minutes. Paul McBrien appeared in 11 games and accumulated 41 penalty minutes.
"This trade is very important to the Flint Generals," said Vice President & Head Coach, Robbie S. Nichols. Zavoral has good size and we need him to be physical in the defensive zone. We will need him to keep it simple and play smart. His experience in this league in previous years and in the Central League make him a valuable asset to the Generals and we are glad to have him back here."
Nichols realizes to get something you want, you have to send other players away. "The Generals would like to thank Andrei Lupandin and Paul McBrien for their efforts," said Nichols. "The players did everything we asked of them and worked hard every time they took the ice. Trades are made to benefit both sides and the Outlaws are planning for their future with this trade. Those two players will help the Outlaws. We wish the best to Andrei and Paul in Kansas City."
