FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League fell behind early and a spirited comeback was stopped in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Motor City Mechanics in front of a sellout crowd of 4,421 at Perani's Arena on Sunday afternoon. The game started with "Kid Rock" on hand to drop the ceremonial puck.

A slow start cost the Generals after falling behind 3-0 in the first period on a power play goal by Mike Burgoyne (1) at 8:03, center Chris Gignac (1) at 10:00 and center Bryan Smolinski (4) at 13:11. In the second period, the Generals made the come back bid on a short handed goal by center John DiPace (14) at 6:55 and right wing Mike Kinnie (33) with a power play tally at 10:42 but that is as close as the Generals would get.

The Mechanics wrapped it up in the third period on goals by right wing Jeff Doyle (6) at 1:41 and a power play goal by Burgoyne (2) at 12:21.
