June 18, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release
Victoria, TX - Ty Schlottman picked up right where Generals pitching staff left off on Sunday and only allowed one earned run in seven innings of work. Kyle Danford carried the big bat, clubbing three RBI singles, and Victoria took the opener 7-4 over the Brazos Valley Bombers.
The Generals were able to get off to a very quick start once again. Coming off two wins Sunday in a doubleheader again East Texas, the Generals continued to hit the ball well and scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Brian Portelli got things going with a triple which brought in Alvaro Rondon. Danford wasted no time and quickly scored Portelli on a single.
Brazos Valley was able to cut the lead in half in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk by Ford Moore which scored Hunter Haley, and that would be all they could muster off Schlottman.
Two more runs would come across for the Generals in the third. Rondon reached on a one out single, stole second base, and scored on a Danford single. Danford would then also take second and come around to score on Blake Cooper's RBI single.
C.J. Pickering led off the home half of the fifth and reached second base on a throwing error by the third baseman. Justin Pacchioli brought Pickering in on his second single of the night. Following a double off the bat of Rondon, Portelli scored Pacchioli on a groundout, and then Danford came up with his third straight RBI single of the night. That hit would end Nick Johnson's night on the mound, the Bomber's starter. He was relieved by Andre Shewcraft, who would quickly get the final two outs of the inning.
After seven masterful innings of work by Schlottmann, Troy Ward would come on in relief for the Generals in the eighth. After getting the first batter of the inning, three singles would score the second Bombers run off the bat of Ryan Roderick. It would score Matt Hilston, bringing the score to seven to two. Ward managed to get out of the bases loaded jam with a foul out to the catcher.
Jeff Chesnut came in to finish things off for the Generals in the ninth. Chesnut was a bit shaky, allowing two more runs to score, but he did secure the victory. Jimmy Norris would start it off with an infield single and score on a sac fly from Horacio Correa III. With two outs and the base empty, Hilston would scamper for another infield single and score the final Bombers run on a G.R. Hinsley double.
With the Win tonight, the Generals take over sole possession of first place in the TCL.
The Generals will conclude their two game home set with the Bombers tomorrow night at 7:35. It will be another free ticket night, this time presented by Invista. Make sure to come cheer the Generals on to another big win.
