Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
The Acadiana Cane Cutters won both games of their doubleheader against the Texas Marshals on Wednesday. Acadiana won game one by a score of 7-6 and game two by a score of 7-2.
Game one was a battle of the offenses as each team fought back-and-forth for the lead. The Cane Cutters got the scoring going early by putting up 2 runs on a Taylor Walker (Jackson State CC) homerun in the top of the first. The Marshals answered by scoring 3 in the bottom half of the inning. Acadiana put up one in the 2nd and one in the 4th to put them in the lead, 4-3. Texas had a big inning in the 5th scoring 3 runs and taking back the lead. In the 6th, Trent Giambrone (Jones County CC) hit a 2 run homerun that tied the game at 6-6. The Cane Cutters put one on the board in the top of the 9th and won the game 7-6.
Cooper Jones (Southern Miss) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters going 4.2 innings and giving up 5 earned runs. Ryan May (LSU) came in to throw 2.1 shutout innings. Jake Hubbard (Alabama) and Scott Ashford (Ole Miss) each threw one shutout inning to finish the game.
Taylor Walker, Trent Giambrone, Daniel Cucjen (Alabama), and James Ziegler (Chandler-Gilbert CC) led the offense with each contributing 2 hits. Walker and Giambrone had key homeruns that kept Acadiana in the game.
Jake Hubbard got the win for the Acadiana Cane Cutters and Scott Ashford got the save. Nick Palacios got the loss for the Marshals.
Game two was a 7 inning game and an offensive explosion for Acadiana. The Cane Cutters scored one in the 1st on a Chance Vincent (Alabama) RBI double. They scored again in the 4th on a Trent Giambrone (Jones County CC) homerun to bring the score to 2-0. In the 5th inning, Acadiana broke the game open by scoring 3 runs making it 5-0. The Cane Cutter added 2 more runs to make in 7-2.
Nick Johnson (Southern Miss) was superb on the mound throwing 6 innings while giving up 2 runs. He was relieved by Alec Sanchez (Texas State) who came in to throw the final inning. Trent Giambrone had his 2nd homerun of the day.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters are now 12-5 and only .5 games out of first place while the Texas Marshals are 3-14.
The Cane Cutters will travel to play the East Texas Pump Jacks on Thursday for a two game series. They return home on Saturday, June 21 for one of the signature promotions on the year, the "Diamond Dig" presented by Paul's Jewelry. At 6:30 forty fans will have the chance to "dig" up the infield for a chance to win a beautiful diamond necklace courtesy of Paul's Jewelry. On Sunday, Eddy, the Cane Cutters mascot, will celebrate his fourth birthday. There will be guest appearances by mascots from local schools and businesses as well.
