Generals Take First Game with Marshals 4-2

Victoria, TX - Tonight the Victoria Generals went head to head with the Brazos Valley Bombers in the first of a two game series at Riverside Stadium. Kasey Kalich took the mound to start things off for Victoria. Kalich struck out eight batters, while walking four of the Bombers hitters. He threw six innings for the team. Other pitchers for the Generals tonight were Kal Kilgo and Tyler Crouch who allowed zero runs.

The Generals jumped to a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning when Nick Barnes hit a RBI single. Luis Olivier moved Barnes over to third with a long double off the top of the left field fence. Michael Williams then grounded into a fielder's choice, and Barnes scored from third. Soon after, Embry Riddle University outfielder Zach Howard hit a two run home run to left field. The Bombers then struck back and tied the game in the next inning.

During the bottom half of the second inning the Generals added another run to give themselves a one run cushion. Victoria scored another run in the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth inning, Robin Adames hit a grand slam to put the Bombers up two runs over the Generals.

Offensively, Victoria had eight hits and 6 runs. Zach Howard was 3-4 with three RBI's, and one run scored. Center fielder, Michael Williams, also went 2-4 with one RBI. Nick Barnes, who was the designated hitter for the Generals, went 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

The loss keeps the Generals two games back from the first place Bombers. The Brazos Valley Bombers improved their record to 12-5, and the Generals record is 10-7.

Game 2 of the series will be held at Riverside Stadium tomorrow at 7:05 pm. There will be free admission to the game sponsored by Fastop/Ozarka. Gates open at 6:00 pm, and happy hour will run until first pitch on the Compadres Party Deck.
