Oshawa Generals News Release

It was a close game tonight but the Generals were successful in earning their second win of the first round, defeating the Petes 2-1 on home ice. Tonight's game featured a puck drop with several players from the 1990 Memorial Cup winning Generals roster, including Eric Lindros, who dropped the puck.

The first frame went by in a flash and there were only two penalties through the period, one to each team. Bradley Latour opened up scoring for the Generals at 12:27 with a goal assisted by Cassels and Smith. The Generals held the lead until the end of the period and outshot the Petes 16-9 in the first. The second period didn't feature much action and only one penalty was given out when Hunter Smith was called for charging at 5:33. The Petes couldn't make anything of the power play and the period closed with the Generals maintaining a 1-0 lead. The Petes had more shots on goal during the second period, outshooting the Gens 11-7.

The third period was action packed and very exciting. Michael McCarron put one past Mancina at 8:49 and gave the Generals a much needed security goal. Josh Brown made the crowd happy with a tilt against Matt McCartney at 14:04. Brown dominated the fight and was visibly happy with the fight as he skated to the penalty box for a five minute fighting penalty. The Petes cut the Generals lead to 2-1 at 16:25 on their power play. Aidan Wallace was in the penalty box for closing hand on the puck when the Petes scored the goal. Luckily the Generals held their lead and took the game with a final score of 2-1, outshooting the Petes 41-28. Ken Appleby took second star of the game after blocking 27 of 28 shots tonight and McCarron took third star.
