Victoria Generals News Release
Generals win tonight against the Acadiana Cane Cutters 6-3. Pitcher Ryan Benitez out of Texas A&M Kingsville started on the mound for the Generals tonight and pitched six strong innings only allowing two earned runs striking out five and zero walks. A couple of Generals stood out offensively; outfielder Justin Pacchioli went two for five with two RBI's on the night. Infielder Pedro Barrios also shined, going three for four, scoring twice and driving in one RBI.
The Cane Cutters struck first tonight in the 2nd inning from a double scoring one off of starting pitcher Benitez making the score 1-0. Benitez would cruise through the 3rd inning only allowing one base runner and recording his third strikeout of the night. On to the 4th inning, the Generals let a runner on by error who would end up scoring off of a single by the Cane Cutters making the score 2-0.
The Generals offense would come to life in the 6th inning when shortstop Alvaro Rondon would walk and steal second base and third base when Cedric Vallieres hit a single to score Rondon making the score 2-1.
The Cane Cutters struck back again in the bottom of the 6th inning from a throwing error scoring one run 3-1. However, the Cane Cutters lead would be no more after the Generals came up big in the top of the 7th, Justin Pacchioli hit a two run single scoring Kyle Danford and Pedro Barrios to make the score 3-3. Benitez would tip his hat after the 6th inning and right-hander James Swan would come in for relief in the 7th. Swan would pitch two-thirds of the 7th when Stuart Springer would come in to finish off the inning.
The Generals were not done offensively carrying the scoring into the 8th inning; Pedro Barrios hit a single to score Brian Portelli making the score 4-3. Kyle Danford would then come up and hit one off the wall to make the score 5-3 going into the 9th inning. Again the Generals were not done, in the top of the 9th they sealed the deal scoring one run from the bat of Brian Portelli making the score 6-3. Pitcher Kris Looper would finish the Cane Cutters off in the 9th with two strikeouts and a fly out to end the game.
The Generals split the series with the Cane Cutters one game a piece and remain tied for second place in the TCL.
