Texas Marshals News Release
The Brazos Valley Bombers completed a two-game sweep of the Texas Marshals with a 9-6 win in Bryan on Sunday night. Jake McDavid picked up the win for the Bombers as he struck out eight batters in six innings, allowing just two runs on four hits with no walks.
The Marshals looked to be in control early as they scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Carlos Contreras hit an RBI triple to score Carson Shaddy before Chase Daughdrill drove in Contreras on an RBI single.
The Bombers got a run back in the bottom of the first as Logan Nottebrok grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and no outs to score a run.
The Bombers then took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 4-2. A Grady Caldwell RBI single put the Bombers ahead 5-2 in the fifth inning.
Contreras picked up his second RBI of the game on a double down the left field line in the top of the eighth inning to score Shaddy and make it a 5-3 ballgame.
The Bombers added four insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with the help of two critical errors by the Marshals infield to take a 9-3 lead.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Oliver Christensen delivered a three-run double to right-centerfield to pull the Marshals within three runs at 9-6. The Marshals got the tying run to the plate after a walk, but a strikeout ended the game.
Ross Vance took the loss for the Marshals as he allowed four runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout in four innings.
With the loss, the Marshals fall to 4-17 on the season. The Bombers improve to 17-5 with the win. The Marshals are off on Monday and Tuesday nights, but will return to action on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the East Texas Pump Jacks starting at 5:00pm at Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.
Fans are encouraged to join the Marshals on Monday night at 7:00pm at Village Burger Bar on Inwood Road for the third installment of The Marshals Coaches Show presented by Davradio Productions and the North Texas Sports Network.
