Victoria Generals News Release
Trey Wall, Nathan Humpal, and Kaleb Keith threw a combined shutout to help the Victoria Generals defeat the Woodlands Strykers 8-0 on Sunday night. It was the first shutout of the season for the Generals pitching staff.
Wall picked up his second win of the season to improve to 2-1 by tossing five innings with two strikeouts. He allowed just four hits and two walks. Nathan Humpal allowed just two hits in three innings with one strikeout and Kaleb Keith pitched a hitless ninth inning with two strikeouts.
Brandon Hannon led off the bottom of the first inning for the Generals with a walk, and then stole second and third base before coming into score on a Romeo Cortina double. Cortina would come around to score on a balk later in the inning to make it 2-0.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the seventh when the Generals offense struck for four more runs. Brandon Hannon hit into a bases loaded fielder's choice, but the Strykers were unable to cut down Brett Hoffman at the plate as he came into score. Alex Klonowski came into score on a wild pitch before Jacob Hubert delivered a two-run single to centerfield to score Hannon and J.D. Stinnett.
The Generals made it 8-0 in the eighth inning as Aaron Morgan led off with a double, advanced to third on a J.B. Moss single, and came into score on an RBI groundout by Hoffman. Moss then scored on an RBI single by Klonowski.
All nine Generals starters recorded at least one hit, with Hannon and Klonowski leading the way with two apiece.
With the win, the Generals improve to 11-5 on the season and the Strykers fall to 4-11.
The Generals will have the day off on Monday before returning to action at Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night at 7:05pm to take on the visiting East Texas Pump Jacks in the first game of a two-game series. Tuesday night is Free Ticket Tuesday presented by Caterpillar. All fans will get in for free to Tuesday night's game courtesy of Caterpillar.
