Strykers Defeat Generals; Will Look for Sweep

The Strykers opened their two game series with the Generals at Riverside Stadium in Victoria. The game was close in the beginning, but the Strykers pulled ahead and earned a 9-4 victory. The two teams will finish their two game set tonight in Victoria.

Spring native, Nolan Holland started on the mound for the Strykers before leaving the game with an undisclosed injury. Nolan Riggs, a Spring native, then came in and pitched five innings of no run ball, giving up four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Chris Thompson, also from Spring, came in and struck out two in his one inning of work. Gandy Stubblefield came in for the final 2.1 innings and struck out four batters for the save.

The offense got their first run in the fourth inning. Second baseman Kevin Santana hit a single, and was brought home on a single by first baseman Taylor Taska. Robert Heep who was in right field would get on base with a walk in the fifth inning. He would come home a single by Ricky Sanchez. Heep scored and Sanchez advanced to second on an error by the Generals on the play. Santana would come to the plate and hit a ball in center field, but an error on the play allowed Sanchez to score. Taska would lead off the sixth by drawing a walk. Dalton Perry would come to the plate and hit a grounder, but another error allowed Perry to go to second and Taska to third. Taska would score on a ball hit by Connor Kalisky that was misplayed by a General. Perry would score on a single by Robert Heep. The Strykers got one run in the eighth, it was scored by Travis Winnon who led the inning with a single. He came home on a single by Landon Merka. The team would score three runs on two errors in the ninth inning. Dirk Masters would lead the inning off with a single. Zach Davis would come in to run for him. Davis would score the first run. Taska, who got on base with a single would score the second run. Brian Smith, would score the last run of the inning.

The teams returns home on Tuesday for the first of two games with the Brazos Valley Bombers. The team will be honoring the Woodlands High School Highlanders before the game Tuesday as they are fresh off winning the state championship.
