TODAY'S GAME: With Birmingham leading the series 2-1, Jackson looks to even the series tonight at 7:05 at Regions Park. The Generals face RHP Terry Doyle for the 2nd time this season. On July 11th, the Generals scored 8 runs on 9 hits, including 5 home runs against Doyle in 4 1/3 innings. The 25-year old from Concord, MA has a 1.03 ERA in 5 home starts though.

JACKSON GENERALS RECAP: - The Barons' Seth Loman hit a two out, 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and Birmingham beat Jackson Sunday at Regions Park, 5-2. The Barons lead the series two games to one. General's starter Jimmy Gillheeney gave up two runs on three hits in the first inning, but settled down to allow just one hit over his final five innings. Gillheeney pitched six innings in the no decision, walking three and striking out three. Moises Hernandez (3-2) allowed the three run home run and took the loss for Jackson. Hernandez's younger brother Felix also lost for Seattle today. Nate Jones (2-3) got the win for Birmingham, pitching two scoreless relief innings and Anthony Carter earned the save in the ninth. Chih-Hsien Chiang was 2-for-4, raising his average in seven Jackson games to .333 and Rich Poythress was also 2-for-4, upping his average to .265. Greg Paiml was the only Baron with 2+ hits going 2-for-4 with a double.

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE: Carlos Triunfel has hit safely in 11 of his last13 games, batting .346 (18x52) with 5 runs, 1 double, 1 home run and 7 RBI. Vinnie Catricala has recorded multihits in 9 of his last 16 games, batting .413 (26x63) with 9 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 7 RBI. Scott Savastano has recorded multi-hits in 8 of his last 17 games, batting .342 (26x76) with 7 runs, 8 doubles, 1 home run, and 9 RBI. Since coming over via trade, Chih-Hsien Chiang is batting .333 (8x24) with 2 runs, 2 doubles, and 3 RBI in 6 games for Jackson.

TODAY'S STARTER: RHP Steven Hensley starts today for the Generals against the Barons. This is Hensley's 3rd start against Birmingham, posting a 1-1 record, with a 4.35 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old from Asheville, NC is coming off his 2nd win of the season last Wednesday against Mississippi at Pringles Park.

THE JACKSON MARINERS': The Mariners current 25-man roster includes 11 rookies: Dustin Ackley, Kyle Seager, Blake Beavan, Dan Cortes, Josh Lueke, Michael Pineda and Tom Wilhelmsen each played in Jackson in either 2010 or 2011. Seager and Wilhelmsen are the only two that have worn the Jackson Generals jersey.

K-PAX PITCHER OF THE WEEK: FToday, the Southern League announced that Generals LHP James Paxton has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week. This marks the first time this season that a Generals player has earned a Hitter or Pitcher of the Week honor. Paxton struck out 10 on Saturday against Birmingham, allowing just two hits in 6 2/3 shutout innings. Paxton's 0.00 ERA for the week lowered his overall ERA to a skimpy 1.97.

TODAY IN BASEBALL HISTORY: 1877 - After St. Louis catcher John Clapp has his cheek smashed by a foul tip, replacement Mike Dorgan goes behind the plate wearing a mask. This is perhaps the first use of a catcher's mask in an official National League game. 1997 - Randy Johnson struck out 19, matching the major league record for left-handers, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Chicago White Sox 5-0.
