Hoover, AL - Steven Hensley and a pair of relievers combined for eight strikeouts as the Jackson Generals (19-25, 57-57) ambushed the Birmingham Barons (17-27, 57-57), 6-4, in front of 1,483 fans Monday night at Regions Park.

In the top of the second, the Generals took a three-run lead after Vinnie Catricala drew a walk and continued to second on a single to right field by Luis Jiminez. A RBI double from Rich Poythress drove home Catricala for the first run of the game. Francisco Martinez followed with a two-run, RBI double that delivered Jiminez and Poythress, 3-0.

The Barons answered in the bottom of the third when Brandon Short knocked a single to right field, advanced to third on a single to right by Christian Marrero and scored on Jon Gilmore's sacrifice fly to center field, 3-1.

Johermyn Chavez lined a double to left field and rushed home on Scott Savastano's double down the left field that increased Jackson's advantage in the fourth inning to three runs, 4-1.

Catricala added another run for the Generals in the fifth inning after he walked, stole second base and sprinted home on a RBI single by Jiminez, 5-1.

Birmingham narrowed Jackson's advantage in the bottom of the fifth inning when Marrero singled to right field before Gilmore smashed his second home run of the season, a two-run shot over the left field wall, 5-3.

The Generals tallied one run in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly by Chavez that plated pinch-runner, Brandon Haveman, 6-3.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jose Martinez singled to second and rounded the bases to score on Greg Paiml's sacrifice fly to right field, 6-4.

Hensley (3-6) earned the victory after he yielded three earned runs on 8 hits, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts in 5.2 IP. Reliever Stephen Pryor (S, 2) garnered the save after the righty tossed 2.0 scoreless IP with two hits and three strikeouts.

Terry Doyle (3-5) received the loss for the Barons after he allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 5.0 IP.

The Barons and Generals wrap up their five-game series Tuesday night at Regions Park with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Birmingham features left-hander Justin Edwards (3-6, 4.72) while Jackson counters with right-handed pitcher Andrew Carraway (8-3, 3.41).
