Generals lose home opener

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League opened the 2004-2005 season suffering a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Muskegon Fury in front of 2,538 at Perani Arena on Friday night. Flint opened the scoring and took the lead in the first period on a power play goal by defenseman Gabriel Proulx at 7:45.

The Generals let this one slip away a bit in the second period as Muskegon scored three unanswered goals in for a 3-1 lead after the second period. Flint kept battling but could not cut into the Fury lead. Muskegon pulled away with three goals in the third period before the Generals' Bobby Kulkulka wrapped up the scoring with a late third period goal for the 6-2 final score.

This game was chippy and physical right from the start as both teams combined for 309 penalty minutes. Flint had 35 penalties for 178 minutes. Muskegon had 33 penalties for 131 penalty minutes. Special teams played a huge factor in this contest, as Flint was 1 for 13 on the power play, while Muskegon was 5 for 12.
