Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals earn their first point of the United Hockey League season but feel as though they may have let one slip away in dropping a 4-3 shootout against the Quad City Mallards on in front of 2,148 at Perani Arena on Saturday night.
The Mallards opened the scoring on a power play goal by right wing Marty Standish (1) at 2:52 for the 1-0 lead. The Generals bounced right back with a power play tally of their own as John DiPace (1) executed a perfect feed from defenseman Gabriel Proulx at 6:54 to tie the game at 1-1. Flint took the lead as left winger Kriz Waltze (1) rifled a shot under the crossbar past Mallard goaltender Jeff Reynaert at 12:11 for a 2-1 advantage.
In the second period, the Generals' Gabriel Proulx (1) connected on the power play just 28 seconds in to the period, stuffing a backhander past Mallard goaltender Jeff Reynaert for a 3-1 lead. It would stay that way until late in the period as the Mallards Jason LeHoux (1) redirected a shot from defenseman Terry Hollinger past Flint netminder Marco Emond to close the gap to 3-2 after the second period.
The third period would stay scoreless until the Mallards pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. With the faceoff in the Flint zone, Quad City center Mike Kompon banked a shot in off the back Emond to tie the game at 3-3 to force the shootout.
