Flint Generals News Release

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals had held the Port Huron power play in check for the first two games of the series. The Icehawks broke through on the power play with a goal 3:02 into overtime when Jamie Carroll scored to beat the Flint Generals 2-1 at Perani Arena and Event Center on Monday night. The Icehawks lead the best of seven series 2-1 with game four set for Perani Arena and Event Center on Wednesday night at 7 pm.

The game was tight-checking, slow pace and defensive-minded throughout. Port Huron held much of the momentum for the first 40 minutes before the Generals got rolling in the final 40 minutes.

Chad Alban was solid in net for the Generals turning aside 32 of 34 shots he faces. Larry Sterling wasn't tested until the third period and stop 24 of 25 shots he faced.

It's the first overtime of the series for the Generals and the Icehawks. Even though game two on Saturday night was much like overtime when John DiPace scored in the final 20 seconds.

It wasn't a great opening 20 minutes for the Generals the first of the series. Port Huron struck with the period's lone goal when Tab Lardner stole the puck from Kris Mallette and put it behind Chad Alban to make it 1-0. The Generals first shot on goal wasn't recorded until there were 8 minutes remaining the frame. The first period was a chippy one but only two penalties were called. Jeff Zehr returned to the line-up after serving his suspension, while Jared Dumba was out of the Generals line-up on an IHL suspension and will return Wednesday.

It was a slow paced second period that both teams had problems creating any room on the ice. The Generals generated more offense and had a couple of scoring chances that were turned aside by Larry Sterling.

Peter Ferraro scored his first professional playoff goal to tie the game up for Flint at the 6:17 mark of the third period. Greg Bullock sent the puck towards the net and goaltender Sterling made the save but left the puck free in the goal crease and Ferraro was there to tap it home.
