Victoria Generals News Release

Victoria, TX - The Texas Marshals pitchers, led by starter Austin Hilton stymied the Victoria Generals hitters all night, and the Generals fell 3-0 in the series opener. Brian Portelli was the lone source of consistency at the plate, going 3 for 4 in the DH role tonight.

After two scoreless innings, the Marshals were able to put two runs on the board in the third inning. Daniel Rushing scored on a groundout from Carlos Contreras, and Casey Mullennix made it 2-0 on an infield single from Chase Daughdrill.

It would be three more innings of no run baseball before the Marshals added another run in the seventh. Three straight one-out singles would score Mullennix; Jace Reese's base hit would bring him in and make the score 3-0.

Chris Hassold came on in relief for Kaleb Keith with two outs in the eighth and two runners in scoring position for the Marshals. Hassold would get the Generals out of the jam, and the score would remain 3-0.

Jake Smith came in for Hilton in the eighth and continued the pitching dominance for the Texas Marshals.

The Generals forced a second pitching change in the ninth inning, with Nick Palacios relieving Smith. It would not amount to anything, though, as the Generals left a second man in scoring position to end the game.

The series finale will be tomorrow night at 7:35. It will be Speedy Stop Sunday. If the Generals win, you can redeem your ticket for a free breakfast or lunch taco with the purchase of a fountain drink all week at Speedy Stop.

Following the game, the Generals will hit the road for a two game set in Louisiana, before coming back to Riverside for another four game home stand, starting against the league-leading Bombers.
