Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Bryan-College Station, TX - Overcoming a four run deficit, the Brazos Valley Bombers (19-6) came back to beat the East Texas PumpJacks (8-17) 7-4 Saturday night.
"Getting back home, that's huge," said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. "We had a huge crowd tonight- it was good to see. [We] fell down early, but we had good pitching, good defense, and good hitting. You saw that over the last eight innings."
The Bombers fell behind early, surrendering four quick runs to East Texas in the top of the first. The Bombers' offense would respond in the bottom of the frame however, notching two runs off a two RBI single by designated hitter Hunter Haley.
Bombers starter Cody Brannon, overcoming his first inning woes, would give up only two more hits in his four-inning outing as the Bombers' pitching staff would hold the PumpJacks scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
The Bombers added two more runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game off a two RBI single by second baseman Jimmy Norris, and would score a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
The Bombers would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to pad their lead on another two RBI single from Haley, who was named the player of the game after going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored.
"I just wanted to get up there and be relaxed and try to get a few base hits," Haley said. "I got to drive a couple runs in and it ended up helping us win the game."
The Bombers will finish their series against the PumpJacks Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. Sunday's game will feature Baseball Bingo presented by Brazos Bingo, where fans can win prizes based on the action on the field.
