Generals earn 5-3 victory over Everblades

GREENSBORO -- In their first trip to the Greensboro Coliseum, the Florida Everblades fell to defeat with a 5-3 loss at the hands of the Greensboro Generals. Behind a season-high crowd of 4,748, the Generals scored three goals in the final period, including two empty-netters, as they improved to 9-5-3 on the season. The Everblades dropped to 7-6-5.

The Generals would strike first on Matt Turek's sixth goal of the season, 11:16 into the first period. Florida would retaliate with a power play conversion on a goal by Marty Johnston with 2:54 remaining in the opening period, knotting the score at 1-1 by period's end.

The Everblades gained the upper hand on the Generals at the tail end of the second period with a Brian Goudie goal with 2:22 remaining. However, the Generals managed to tie the game on rookie Matt Chandler's first goal as a professional with 1:01 remaining in the second period.

Greensboro took the lead for good at the 9:00 mark of the third on a short-handed goal by Mark Tuner, the Generals' fifth shorthanded goal of the season. The next Generals goal would come with 1:06 remaining in the game as Sam Ftorek would record his ninth goal on an empty netter. However, Florida made it interesting with 29 seconds remaining in the contest, with Jared Newman closing the gap to 4-3. Greensboro's Pete Gardiner would tack on one more empty net goal, recording his team-leading 11th goal of the season with three seconds remaining in the contest.

The Generals will face the Columbus Cottonmouths at the Greensboro Coliseum on Thanksgiving Day with a 7:00 start time.
