Generals Drop Second Straight, 2-1 To Huntsville

JACKSON, TENN. (MAY 8, 2012) - For the second straight game, Jackson fell to Huntsville at Pringles Park by one run with the tying run left at second base in the ninth. Huntsville (19-14) defeated Jackson on Tuesday, 2-1. The Stars pulled within one game of Jackson (20-13) in the division.

Huntsville scored their two runs in the top of the fifth inning with two outs on a double down the third base line by Josh Prince, scoring Lee Haydel and Matt Cline.

Jackson cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning on back-to-back doubles from Francisco Martinez and Eric Campbell, but that was all Jackson could muster.

The two teams combined for just 10 hits on Tuesday.

The Generals threatened in the ninth inning. Joe Dunigan drew a one out walk, but Huntsville closer Robert Wooten, pitching for the second straight day retired Rich Poythress and Denny Almonte to end the game.

Generals' starter James Paxton (3-1) allowed two runs on four hits over six innings Tuesday and took a tough luck loss. Paxton struck out seven and walked three. Mauricio Robles and Carter Capps combined to blank the Stars over the final three innings, giving up just one hit. Huntsville starter Evan Anundsen picked up the victory and surrendered just one run over 5.1 innings.

The Generals continue the five-game series Wednesday at Pringles Park against the Huntsville Stars, with first pitch set for 11:05 a.m. RHP Taijuan Walker (3-1, 1.30) will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Kyle Heckathorn (1-1, 3.86) for Huntsville.
