Moline, IL - The Flint Generals dropped a 4-2 decision to the Quad City Mallards Wednesday night at the iwireless Center as they continue to struggle on the road.
The home team struck first 8:17 of the first period with a score by Brandon Morino, his eighth goal of the 2009-10 season. At the end of 20 minutes both goaltenders had faced 12 shots, with only Jerad Kaufmann heading to the locker room unblemished.
The Mallards held the one goal lead until Matt Cook made it a 2-0 game 13:40 into the middle stanza. Jason Hill put the Generals on the board less than four minutes after Cook's goal. Alec Kirschner took the shot from the slot and Hill chipped it in from the front of the net. John Ronan brought his point streak to 13 games and tied the game at 2-2, when he tipped in a Dan Lapointe shot through the pads of Kaufmann. Ronan's goal came just.34 seconds after Hill cut the Mallards lead to one.
Flint out shot Quad City in the final period 11 to 8 but it was the pesky Mallards that connected. Chris Lipsett found the back of the net 1:18 into the third to regain the lead for the home team. Lipsett sealed the deal for the Mallards with 1:46 left in regulation with a shorthanded empty net goal giving Quad City the 4-2 victory.
Nick Niedert started in net for the second straight game and stopped 29 of the 32 shots faced while Kaufmann stopped 37 of 39. The Generals went 0 of 4 with the man advantage and allowed the Mallards to score on 1 of 4 power play opportunities.
Play resumes for the Generals this Saturday when they head to Port Huron to take on the IceHawks. The Generals are on the road until February 13th, when they return to Perani to host the IceHawks. **Generals Hockey**
