MOLINE, Ill. (January 27, 2010) - Chris Lipsett scored both the game winning power play goal and the clinching shorthanded empty netter in the third period as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, snapped a five game losing streak by defeating the Flint Generals 4-2 Wednesday night.
Lipsett buried a loose puck from close range to break a 2-2 tie at 1:18 of the third. He then finished off the win by firing the puck the length of the ice into the gaping Flint net with just 1:16 remaining.
Matt Cook's low drive from the right wing circle doubled what had been a 1-0 Mallard lead at 13:40 of the second period. However, the two goal advantage would disappear in just over half a minute as the Generals battled back to even the score late in the second. Jason Hill got Flint on the scoreboard for the first time by pouncing on a rebound at 17:17 and 34 seconds later John Ronan tipped in the equalizer from the doorstep.
Brandon Marino wristed home the game's opening goal from the right wing circle at 8:07 of the first period.
The Mallards visit Fort Wayne Friday before next taking to the ice at home against Dayton at 7:05 p.m Saturday night. The first 1,000 fans arriving for Saturday's game will receive free Mallards knit caps courtesy of Stoney Creek Inn.
