
Generals Blast Four Homers in 6-1 Win over Smokies

KODAK, TENN. (JULY 15, 2012) - Jackson matched a season-high, blasting four home runs Sunday, defeating Tennessee at Smokies Park, 6-1 to even the series at 1-1. Joe Dunigan added his second, two-homer performance of the season (last 4/21) and was 2-for-4. The Generals (56-37, 13-9) lead the second half standings by a game over Chattanooga in the North Division.
The Smokies scored first Sunday on a run in the first inning coming off a broken bat single from Justin Bour that plated Junior Lake. The Smokies had multiple runners reach base in three of the first five innings, but remained at one run.
Jackson tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth on the first of two homers from Dunigan. His first homer was his 17th of the season.
The Generals broke the tie with a two out RBI double from Stefen Romero that scored Johermyn Chavez from second. Jackson led 2-1.
Dunigan struck for his second homer and tied for the league lead with 18 homeruns in the eighth with a solo blast to right giving Jackson a 3-1 edge.
The Generals were not done yet. In the ninth, Romero blasted a 2-run homer off the left field scoreboard to make it 5-1 Jackson. On the next pitch, Chih-Hsien Chiang belted a solo shot to right making the score 6-1. That was the first time the Generals have gone back-to-back with homers this season.
James Paxton (4-3) earned his first win since May 3rd Sunday with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing just 1 run on 8 hits. Paxton walked 1 and struck out 6. Jonathan Arias earned a hold with 2.0 scoreless frames and Carter Capps pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation.
Leury Bonilla, Romero, Chiang and Dunigan tallied two-hit games for the Generals.
The Generals continue their four-game series at Tennessee on Monday night, with first pitch set for 6:15 p.m. CT. Jackson will send to the mound LHP Anthony Fernandez (4-0, 1.20) while RHP Ty'Relle Harris (0-1, 1.13) will make the start for Tennessee.
