BayBears Shutdown by Biscuits in Series Opener

The Mobile BayBears fell 6-0 to the Montgomery Biscuits Saturday night at River Walk Stadium. The Biscuits took an early lead in the first inning, scoring four runs on five hits en route to the shutout over the BayBears. Mobile left 13 men on base while going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. With the Biscuits win over the BayBears, Montgomery now leads Mobile in the overall Southern League standings by one full game.

LHP David Holmberg suffered his second loss of the season for the BayBears. The Biscuits scored four runs on five hits in a first inning in which Mobile recorded two errors. Holmberg left the game after 5.2 innings, allowing three unearned runs on 10 hits. RHP Jake Thompson earned his seventh win of the season for Montgomery, holding the BayBears scoreless through the first five innings before turning the ball over to the Biscuits bullpen, which allowed just one hit over the final four frames.

Greg Sexton and Hak-Ju Lee paced the Biscuits offensively, each with three hits and a RBI. Lee scored the first run of the game in the first inning after a lead-off single and scored in the next at-bat on a throwing error from Matt Davidson. Lee's RBI single in the sixth inning scored the sixth and final run of the game for the Biscuits.

Mobile and Montgomery resume the four game series on Sunday, July 15, at 6:05 PM. RHP Derek Eitel (6-7) will go to the hill for the BayBears and RHP Matt Buschmann (3-4) will start for the Biscuits. The BayBears return to Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday, July 19, to open up a four game homestand vs. the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at 7:05 PM.
