FLINT, MI - Flint Generals' training camp hopefuls were trying to make a lasting impression on the coaching staff on Saturday night during the final exhibition game against the Port Huron Icehawks at Perani Arena and Event Center. The Generals scored three times in the first period and goaltender Matt Spezza did the rest in a 6-2 win over their nasty I-69 rivals.

The Generals evened their pre-season mark at 1-1 and Sunday morning is decision day when roster spots will be filled.

An enthusiastic crowd watched Matt Moffat score 21 seconds into the game to make it 1-0 for the home team. Nick Bet notched his second goal in as many games to make it 2-1 before the contest was three minutes old. After Port Huron scored to cut the deficit to 2-1, the Generals padded their lead on a marker by Jason Dolgy. Goaltender Derek MacIntyre had a solid first period

In the second period, Matt Spezza made some big saves to keep his team in front. Port Huron cut the deficit to 3-2 but that would be as close as they would get. Dolgy picked up his second to make it 4-1 and then Josef Budaj tallied shorthanded in the final seconds to make it 5-2 after 40 minutes. Budaj rounded out the scoring with a goal in the third period.
