
IceHawks split preseason series with Flint

FLINT, MI - A night after the Port Huron Icehawks defeated the Flint Generals to open exhibition play, the Generals beat their in-state rival 6-2 to split the home-and-home preseason series.
The Generals pulled to an early lead with goals from rookies Matt Moffat and Nick Bet in the first three minutes of play. Icehawks forward Jamie Carroll scored unassisted on the power play midway through the first period to trim the deficit, but Flint added a power play goal of their own before the period came to a close to boost their lead to 3-1.
Jeremy Tucker scored the Icehawks second goal of the night on a pass from rookie Brett Aimone at 5:56 in the second period before Flint ignited for three consecutive goals, including two from Josef Budaj.
The Icehawks outshot the Generals 47-22 in the loss, including a margin of 14-4 in the third period alone.
Icehawks goalie Andre Laperriere took the loss with 13 saves on 18 shots, while Larry Sterling stopped three of four shots in relief. Flint goalie Derek MacIntyre had the win for the Generals.
The Icehawks open the International Hockey League regular season with a Turner Cup Finals rematch versus the Fort Wayne Komets at home on Friday, October 17. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a free tailgate party in front of McMorran Arena. Don't miss free food, entertainment, face painting and fun. The game begins immediately following the tailgate at 7:30 p.m.
