Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals banged out 12 hits en route to a 6-3 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers at Edible Field in Bryan. Victoria led 4-1 after four innings and held on the rest of the way to improve to 21-10 with its 11th consecutive win.

Four Generals put together multi-hit performances, led by Texas State LF Damien Whitfield and his 3-for-3 showing with one run scored, a run batted in and a walk. St. Thomas C Mason Seay, Western Oklahoma State RF Derek Cerda and Southeastern CF Cristopher Munoz each collected two hits and a run scored, with Seay and Munoz tallying an RBI.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi RHP Kody Gibbs gave Victoria 7.1 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Blinn Junior College RHP Blaine Zeplin walked a batter and struck out one in 0.2 frames, with Kansas Wesleyan RHP KT Gearlds closing the door in the final inning with a walk and a punchout.

The Generals struck first with two runs in the third inning off RBI singles from Whitfield and Munoz. The team picked up a 4-0 lead in the fourth after an RBI single by Seay and a steal of home by Cerda, his 11th stolen base of the summer. A bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the frame scored Brazos Valley's first run, but Victoria followed with runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

UT-Arlington 1B Tyce Armstrong made it a 5-1 ballgame in the fifth with an RBI sacrifice fly before A&M-Corpus Christi 2B Drake Kerr's RBI single in the sixth capped off the Generals' scoring. A wild pitch and a fielder's choice brought home two runs for the Bombers in the eighth.

The Generals return to Riverside Stadium on Monday, July 10, to take on the Baton Rouge Rougarou at 7:05 p.m. It's Scout Night, with all scouts in uniform admitted to the game free.
