Oshawa Generals News Release

The Oshawa Generals battled hard tonight but couldn't defeat the Kingston Frontenacs. Tonight marks the first loss that the Generals have had on home ice this season. What proved to be a very evenly matched game ended up in a 5-2 win for the Frontenacs.

Despite the score tonight, the atmosphere of tonight's game was truly exceptional with a sea of pink in the stands to support our First Annual Pink in the Rink night presented by Pandora Store Oshawa Centre and Oshawa Jewellery Inc. Wendy Dal Colle, mother of Michael Dal Colle dropped the puck tonight, a survivor of breast cancer for over eight years. Michael Dal Colle represented the Generals for the puck drop, meeting his mom with a hug, and showed the true spirit of tonight's game. The commemorative jerseys worn at tonight's game will be auctioned off starting tomorrow at 10 a.m. on our eBay page. More details will follow on our website tomorrow. All proceeds will support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Tonight's game was a very physical one from the start. Will Petschenig was granted the first penalty of the night for a check from behind. Kingston opened the scoring at 5:24 into the first on their power play. Connor McGlynn put one past Kenny Appleby, assisted by Corey Pawley. The Frontenacs seeked redemption for Petschenig's previous hit and this landed Ryan Verbeek in the penalty box for the same call, a check from behind. The Generals took advantage of the power play and Michael Dal Colle scored his sixth goal of the season, assisted from Mitchell Vande Sompel and Cole Cassels. Oshawa and Kingston would both have another penalty during the period, McKeown for tripping and Wallace for cross-checking. The period ended with the teams tied 1-1 and the shots on goal even at eight a piece.

The second period started with the Generals and the Frontenacs at even strength. Exactly five minutes into the period, Juho Lammikko scored third goal of the season and gave the Frontenacs a 2-1 lead over the Generals. Just over a minute later, Stephen Templeton was sent to the penalty box for holding. It wasn't until 12:07 into the period that the Frontenacs would score again, this time from Ryan Kujawinski. 30 seconds later, Kingston's Sam Field was sent to the penalty box for interference. Lawson Crouse followed a few minutes later for tripping. The Generals couldn't find the back of the net on either power play opportunity. The period ended with the Generals leading shots on goal 10-7 but trailing the Frontenacs 3-1.

Despite a strong effort from the Generals throughout the game, made clear by their shots on goal, the team simply couldn't seem to find their groove tonight. Paul McFarland, Head Coach of the Kingston Frontenacs returned to the GM Centre tonight following his role as Assistant Coach with the Generals previously. This may have served as an advantage to understanding how the team would play. The fourth Frontenacs goal of the game was scored by Lawson Crouse, With 1:38 remaining in the game, Kenny Appleby was pulled and DJ Smith called a timeout for the Generals. It would be Watson who found the back of the empty net for the Frontenacs, securing their win 5-2 over the Generals.

Tonight marks the first loss on home ice for the Generals, but of course, not every game can be won. The Generals outshot the Frontenacs 28-24 tonight and they look to win their next game on Sunday, Nov. 2 when the team faces the Belleville Bulls at 6:05 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811. Huge thanks to all of our amazing fans for coming out to support our Pink in the Rink night!
