DALLAS, Texas - On Monday, October 23, the United States Men's National Minifootball Team trained in Dallas to prepare for the 2023 Minifootball World Cup, which is being played in Dubai. David Ortiz and Sebastian Mendez, two prominent players for the Texas Outlaws, were called up to represent the U.S. Men's National Mini-Football Team, both of which are returning after winning in Europe in 2021.
Minifootball is small-sided football, or soccer, and played by millions across the world. Minifootball is played in five out of seven continents - North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It is the largest competition organized by the World Minifootball Federation (WMF) and takes place every two years.
"It is always a special moment for a player to be called up to represent their country," said Head Coach of the Texas Outlaws, Tatu.
At their training session, Brad Namdar, General Manager and Sporting Director of the Texas Outlaws, was invited to meet the players and give some words of encouragement by the U.S. Head Coach, Craig Rhodis.
"It was an honor to be invited to the training session and be able to speak to the players representing the United States," said Namdar. "The boys looked ready to go in this tournament and are ready to make us all proud."
The Minifootball World Cup will be played in Dubai and broadcast internationally. Team USA is considered one of the favorites out of the 32 nations in the World Cup. The World Cup will run from October 26 until November 4.
"We are proud that our program is not only representing the best players in Texas on the global stage but are also representing the United States of America. We are all so proud and wish the entire team the best of luck," continued Namdar.
