Klamath Falls Gems News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, OR. - Nine innings was not enough between the Klamath Falls Gems and the Cowlitz Black Bears in the second game of their three-game series, as the Gems scored in the bottom of the 10th to take a 10-9 win. Gems fans, 1,014 strong, stuck around to watch the wild back-and-forth action in game Saturday night at Kiger Stadium.

In the end, OF Kainoa Crowell (Ohlone JC) delivered his third hit of the night, a single in the bottom of the 10th, scoring OF Rich Sanguinetti (Nebraska) from third base for the win.

Tied at 9-9 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Gems 2B Nate Goodwin (Baylor) led off with a five-pitch walk. Pinch hitter Ryan Doeppel (Oklahoma St) put down a sacrifice bunt to move Goodwin up to second base, bringing up the top of the order and Sanguinetti, who walked on five pitches. After a sacrifice fly by SS Graham Saiko (Oklahoma State), Crowell singled to left, bringing home Sanguinetti.

RP Patrick O'Rourke (U. of Hawaii) entered the ballgame in the ninth inning, struck out three and walked one, giving up one hit as he recorded his second win of the season.

The teams combined for 31 hits, with Klamath Falls recording season highs in runs (10) and hits (15) on the night. All but two Gems players recorded a hit. RP Ian Eckery (Missouri) took the loss for the Black Bears, his second on the year.

The Gems meet Cowlitz for the final time this season on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. at Kiger Stadium.
