Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Klamath Falls: July 16, 2011: Jeff Gold (University of Oregon) led the Black Bears to a win over the Gems in his last start and was looking for a repeat of his seven innings of three-hit baseball. Instead, Gold dealt with base runners in every inning except for the second as Klamath scored in five consecutive innings.

The Black Bears offense did not have the consistency, but it had more power as the team scored four runs in two separate innings. Five back-to-back singles did the damage in the 2nd, highlighted by a two-run knock by Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon). In the 6th, Mitchell Walding (University of Oregon) RBI double got the merry-go-round started.

The team entered the 8th inning behind 9-8, but a run-scoring double from Greg Velazquez (Cal St. Fullerton) tied the contest at nine. Ian Ekery (University of Missouri) came on to and worked an efficient 9th. Cowlitz went down in order in the 10th, and Ekery was one out from getting away with a leadoff walk when the Gems scored with a walk off single.

The Black Bears return to Story Field starting July 19th against the Kitsap Blue Jackets. It will be Azteca $2 Tuesday with general admissions tickets, hot dogs, soda, and beer all just two dollars, along with Kelso Schools Spirit Night. Following that will be Burgerville Family Night on Wednesday and Thirsty Thursday on Thursday.
