Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Gems Ownership Group, proud member of the Central Hockey League, in conjunction with the American Heart Association, announced today the game against the Colorado Eagles on Friday, November 5th at 7:30 p.m. will be known as American Heart Association Night. This will be the first ever meeting between Colorado and Dayton and the Eagles (Colorado) are coming off of making the CHL playoffs in 2009-10, a feat the Gems hope to emulate this season.
The Gems and the American Heart Association are taking the November game "to heart," with a partnership that will support the American Heart Association's Greater Dayton Start! 5K Heart Walk and Run that will take place at Wright State University's Ervin J. Nutter Center on Saturday, September 25th. Registration and festivities begin at 8:00 a.m.
Discounted tickets may be purchased with fliers that can be obtained in advance from the American Heart Association. On game night, the AHA will be promoted and a special ceremonial puck will be dropped. Proceeds from the event will support the American Heart Association.
"We are very excited to be working with the Dayton Gems on this event," said Elise Huelskamp Start! Walk Director of the AHA Miami Valley Division. "The Start! Heart Walk is our signature fundraising event and this is a perfect way to celebrate another successful year by cheering on a hometown team right here in Dayton."
The American Heart Association will be holding a contest with the winner being the walker that raises the most money or the September 25th event. The contest will run from Tuesday, September 7, through Friday, September 17th, at noon. Money can be raised by registering and sending emails thorough the AHA's online fundraising tool at http://heartwalk.kintera.org/daytonoh or by bringing cash and checks to the AHA's office located at 1313 West Dorothy Lane in Kettering (in the event of a tie, the participant with the most emails sent will receive the prize). The winner will receive four free tickets to the game against Colorado (on Friday November 5th) and may drop the ceremonial puck that night.
