Dayton Gems News Release
After a long night at Hara Arena, the Dayton Gems fell to the Fort Wayne Komets with a final score of 4-2.
In the first period no team could score until Fort Wayne finally broke the ice and scored on the Gems over 15 minutes in. The Gems would not score for the remainder of the period.
To counter, the Gems' own Mike Vaskivuo scored less than two minutes into the second period with assists from Tim Hartung and Joe Van Culin, tying up the 1-1 score. However, the Komets pulled ahead and took another goal from the Gems just over five minutes into the period, taking the lead again. Once again, the Gems managed a crowd-pleasing goal as forward John Snowden skimmed across the ice to score, assisted by Hartung. With that, the Gems had tied it up yet again.
The Komets pushed their way to the Gems' goal and scored again five minutes into the third period. Still in hopes to tie the game again, the Gems worked hard to score again, but Fort Wayne pushed them back as the Komets scored one more goal less than a minute into the empty net before the game's end. The evening ended with the Komets 4 the Gems 2. The Gems record is now 20 - 30 - 3 - 1.
Tomorrow, February 27th, the Gems take on the Quad City Mallards at Hara Arena at 730pm. It's Trotwood Community Night. The Gems welcome friends, families, businesses and local groups from Trotwood to support their communities. Group seating is available. Trotwood Madison schools are encouraged to participate. This is a special city night sponsored by the Trotwood Parks and Recreation Department. A portion of all presale tickets purchased will benefit the Parks and Recreation Department.
