
Icehawks fall to Mallards

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Mallards fell 4-3 to the Quad City Mallards on Friday at McMorran Arena. The Icehawks skated to an early lead, but in the end were defeated by a strong Quad City power play, as the Mallards scored three times on the man advantage.
The Icehawks entered the third period with a 3-2 lead, but the Mallards struck twice in the final frame to surge ahead. Obi Aduba scored at 9:05 and Jaques Perrault beat goalie Adam Russo on the power play at 13:43 for the eventual game winner. The Mallards outshot the Icehawks 9-5 in the final frame.
The Icehawks came out strong, outshooting the Mallards 16-5 in the first period to take an early 2-0 lead. Tab Lardner struck first with a shorthanded goal at 6:45. Kris Vernarsky assisted on the play. The Icehawks increased their lead with another goal at 11:58, this time off the stick of Matt Maccarone. Derek Patrosso and Bryan Nathe were credited with the assists.
The Mallards got on the board on a Brandon Marino goal at 4:53 in the second period. Justin White and Juris Stahls assisted. The Icehawks fired back less than three minutes later with a goal from Nick Lindberg at 7:50 on assists from Brandon Naurato and Mickael Bedard. The Mallards held the shots advantage 12-5 in the second.
The second place Icehawks fall to 33-18-0-3, while the Mallards improve to 19-24-4-6 overall, but remain in fifth place. The Mallards win marks the first time they defeated the Icehawks in regulation this season. The Icehawks continue to lead the season series 5-1-0-3.
The Mallards outshot the Icehawks 27-25 overall. Mallards goalie Kyle Jones earned the win with 22 saves on 25 shots. Icehawks netminder Adam Russo made 23 saves on 27 shots.
The Icehawks wrap up the week with a game in Flint on Sunday. They return home next weekend for a pair of contests with the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Friday and Saturday.
