The Dayton Gems took home ice tonight at Hara in the 2nd of a home to home series against the Quad City Mallards. The Mallards on a powerplay put the 1st puck in just after the halfway point of the 1st period. It took the Gems Captain Greg Labenski would even things during a Gems powerplay with only a little more than a minute left to play. He was assisted by Tim Hartung and Matt Szypura. The 2nd period would wind down to the last few minutes when Dayton's Mike Vaskivuo would move the Gems ahead with the aid of Labenski and John Snowden. It would be only 1:21 later and Dayton would score again this time it was rookie Jon Ornelas that found the net with the help of Pierce Norton and one of the newest members of the team, Matt Maccarone. Giving Dayton the 3 - 1 lead. Quad City would start the scoring in the 3rd with a goal only 5:16 into the period on yet another powerplay. But, the rest of the evening belonged to the Gems. Preston Briggs would score assisted by Adam Maccarone and Joe Van Culin 12:22 into the period. The it was Dayton's Hartung for his second of the evening with the help of John Snowden and Mike Vaskivuo and to finish the evening Justin McCutcheon found the empty net with an assist from Matt Maccarone. Final score Dayton Gems 6 - Quad City Mallards 2. The Gems record is now: 22 - 33 - 3 - 1.
There's still plenty of Gems action at Hara with 9 home games left and plenty of evenings to cheer on the team. This Wednesday, March 10th at 7pmwhen the Gems meet the Flint Generalsat Hara Arena it's another exciting evening of hockey and $1 beers. The Gems City Roller Girls will be in attendance to offer information about their season and introduce themselves to the Gems fans.

On Saturday, March 13th at Hara Arena the Dayton Gems will face off at 7:30pm against the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. The Gems believe it's a night to Thank a Teacher. All teachers in attendance will receive $1 off their admission. Classes are welcome to bring their instructor and be seated together. Fund raising programs are available. That evening will also be Dayton Chamber of Commerce Night. All Chamber Members will receive $1off their admission. Businesses are welcome to have pregame meetings or parties at the arena.
Upcoming events include: Teacher Appreciation Night, Dayton Chamber of Commerce Night, Scouts Night, Skate with the Team, Trading Card Nights, An evening with the King - Elvis Tribute Concert following the game, Singles Night - sponsored by Single Source News, Generation Dayton Night, Restaurant Employees Night, Jersey Auctions and visits from the Gem City Roller Girls and Bud Girls. Don't forget all Wednesdays are Dollar Beer night and Frothy Fridays have $2 drafts.
Monday evenings join the Gems at Fox and Hound in Beavercreek at 9pm as they become Dayton Icon judges. Thursdays have lunch with the players at Brixx downtown. See you at noon!
