Port Huron Icehawks News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks beat the Muskegon Lumberjacks for the second time in two nights as they skated to a 5-4 victory Saturday in front of more than 2,400 fans at McMorran Arena. Over the course of the weekend the Icehawks shaved four points off the Lumberjacks' lead in the IHL standings.

Newcomer Matt Auffrey scored his first two goals in an Icehawks sweater in the first half of the first period to give his team an early two-goal lead. Derek Patrosso's late power play goal temporarily gave the Icehawks a three-goal advantage, but Muskegon's Matt Robertson scored less than a minute later to keep the Lumberjacks within two. Despite lighting the lamp three times, Port Huron was outshot by Muskegon 12-11 in the first period.

Muskegon cut the deficit to one with Michel Beausoleil's goal halfway through the second period. What appeared to be a late goal by Port Huron's Mickael Bedard did not count as Daniel Tetrault fought with Muskegon's John DiPace at the other end of the ice. The fracas began after a huge check by Tetrault. The Lumberjacks again outshot the Icehawks, 12-10.

The teams traded early third period goals as Port Huron's Nick Lindberg and Muskegon's Matt Robertson found the back of the net. Port Huron's Brandon Kaleniecki scored at 8:30 of the third, but the Lumberjacks again cut the lead to one three minutes later on a Robin Bouchard goal. Bouchard's league-best 47th goal of the season proved to be the game's last as the Icehawks earned the 5-4 victory. Muskegon outshot Port Huron 11-6 in the third period and 35-27 overall.

Port Huron goalie Larry Sterling stopped 31 of 35 shots for the win while Muskegon's Matt Lundin stopped 22 of 27 shots in his second loss to the Icehawks in as many nights. Mickael Bedard had his first career four-assist game, and was named the game's first star.

With the win, the Icehawks improve to 36-18-0-4 and remain in second place. Muskegon drops to 40-15-0-3. The Lumberjacks remain in first place, seven points ahead of Port Huron.
