Gems Add Defenseman Langlais & Release Kuqali
October 15, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, proud members of the Central Hockey League, announced the addition of defenseman Chad Langlais and the release of defenseman Nicholas Kuqali.
Langlais, 25, begins his professional hockey career in a Gems sweater after completing a record setting four year stint with the University of Michigan, amassing an impressive streak of playing every single game in each of his four letter winning seasons while in Ann Arbor. Breaking a school record by suiting up for a whopping 173 straight games, that accomplishment earns Langlais the distinction of playing in the most total games by any Wolverines player in the 89 year history of the program. His senior season of 2010-2011 culminated in his second NCAA Frozen Four appearance, helping his team make it to the Division 1 championship game.
The native of Spokane, Washington also reunites with fellow Michigan Wolverine and current Gems goaltender Bryan Hogan, who played alongside Langlais at both Michigan and in junior with the USHL's Lincoln Stars. Prior to his collegiate career, Langlais helped his Lincoln club to the Clark Cup playoffs by notching 48 points and 118 penalty minutes in his 2006-07 campaign.
The Gems have also released defenseman Nicholas Kuqali. The Pittsburgh native attended the Gems training camp after appearing in 40 games last season for the New York Aviators of the "single A" Federal Hockey League, where he earned 14 points.
The Dayton Gems return to action in their final preseason tuneup against division rival Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday inside the War Memorial Coliseum. Faceoff time is 5pm from Fort Wayne, with fans invited to tune into the live Internet radio broadcast by logging onto wave96.net or www.DaytonGems.comstarting at 4:50pm.
The Gems opening night is set for Saturday, November 5 at 7pm when they host the Quad City Mallards on Cassano's Italian Ice inside the historic Hara Arena. Tickets and packages are available by calling the Gems at 275-7777 or by visiting www.DaytonGems.com.
