Blaze drop first pre-season game

The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, managed just two second-period goals as they fell in the first of two pre-season contests, 7-2 to the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night at iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois.

Missouri built up a 4-0 lead until the Blaze tallied with 4:21 remaining in the second period on an unassisted goal by Mike Zbriger. The Blaze cut the deficit to 4-2 going into the second intermission on a Brodie Sheahan goal with 1:18 left in the middle period, assisted by Jon Esposito and Travis Granbois. The Mavericks lit the lamp three times in the third period to seal the win.

The Blaze return home to conclude the pre-season schedule on Sunday afternoon with a 3:05 face-off against the Evansville IceMen at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Tickets are only $5 and will be general admission. The Blaze open the season at home on Saturday, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Dayton Gems.

The new Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, will be playing in the 14-team Central Hockey League. Bloomington will be in the league's Turner (Northern) Conference along with the Fort Wayne Komets, Dayton Gems, Quad City Mallards, Missouri Mavericks, Rapid City Rush, and Evansville IceMen.
