MONTPELIER, Vt. - Vermont infielder Austin Gauthier (Lorton, Va. / Hofstra University) has been named the New England Collegiate Baseball League's Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Gauthier led the league in total hits for the week, tallying nine drives in 21 at-bats to clock in a .429 batting average. Three of his hits went for extra bases, including two doubles and a triple. Gauthier also drove in five runs while recording four himself to go with a pair of walks and two stolen bases, in addition to committing just a pair of strikeouts. The Hofstra hitter secured one hit in all five games this past week, registering three multi-hit performances in that span.

The rising junior has had a stellar career thus far at Hofstra University, batting .269 as a sophomore and recording 46 hits for the Pride, including eight doubles, two triples and two homers while driving in 22 and scoring 25. Gauthier posted a .950 fielding percentage and added 12 stolen bases.

Gauthier is the first Mountaineer to receive Player of the Week honors in nearly two years, after Troy Scocca took home the distinction on July 4, 2016.

In addition to Gauthier, Tyler Thorington (Woodhaven, Mich. / Western Michigan University) was named to the Week 2 Honor Roll for NECBL pitchers. The senior pitcher picked up his first career win as a Mountaineer in a 10-3 victory over Sanford last Tuesday, Jun. 11, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out seven Mainers.

The Mountaineers will return to action on Tuesday, Jun. 18, with a 6:30 p.m. showdown at historic Montpelier Recreation Field against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks.
