Cats Narrowly Escape a Shark Attack

June 17, 2019 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
North Adams SteepleCats News Release

In a game that saw a 5 run third inning with only 1hit, a 6-0 lead vanish, a pinch-hit homerun, a hit batsman with the bases loaded, a ball grounded foul and then spin back fair, 20 combined hits, 34 combined strikeouts and a walk-off the SteepleCats pull out a 7-6 comeback win to move to 7-1 on the season. The SteepleCats fell behind 6-0 after just two and a half innings almost entirely on their own doing. They only allowed 4 hits all game, but yet found themselves in the jackpot early on. From there the Cats brought in Joey Kemlage and order was restored. Kemlage went 5 1/3 innings striking out eleven, the Cats would strikeout 21 batters on the night as a team. The only batter in either teams starting line-ups to not strike out was Scout Knotts as he had 4 hits, 2 doubles and scored the game winning run. With the Cats trailing 6-2 in the 6th inning coach Mike Dailey turned to the bench as he tapped Paul Komistek to hit, and hit he did. A two-run blast into the Massachusetts night sky brought the deficit to just to. The Cats would go into the 9th inning tied up. after Madison Jeffery did his part in the top of the ninth, and Scout Knotts did the rest. A ninth inning 1 out double got the winning run aboard, and with the bases loaded a wild pitch by a Sharks reliever allowed Knotts to score and the Cats to complete one of the most improbable comebacks you will see all season. Keep an eye on your Facebook tomorrow as we will be posting a link to an interview with one or more of the SteepleCats coaches, because frankly so much happened in this game a write-up simply won't cut it. But when all the dust clears the Cats have improved to a league best 7-1 on the season. They will have an off day tomorrow and will be back at home on Wednesday as the Cats will look to keep riding this wave.
