Prince George Cougars News Release

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Cougars Hockey Club is pleased to announce goaltenders Taylor Gauthier ('01) and Tyler Brennan ('03) have been invited to Hockey Canada's Program of Excellence goaltending camp.

The four-day Program of Excellence goaltending camp will take place at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport's Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, AB.

The camp brings together top goaltending talent and elite-level instructors from across the country. The camp serves as the initial evaluation stage for summer development and selections camps for Canada's national teams. The Program of Excellence goaltending camp is set for June 5-8 and will welcome 26 goaltenders, from the under-17, under-18 and under 20 levels.

Taylor Gauthier is one of 10 goaltenders invited at the under-20 level, which includes three other Western Hockey League (WHL) goaltenders. Signed prospect Tyler Brennan is one of 12 goaltenders invited at the under-17 level and that grouping includes two other WHL prospects.

Gauthier played in 55 games this past season, where he collected 15 wins and sported a 3.25 goals-against average (GAA) and an .899 save percentage (SV%). He was tied for sixth in the WHL in shutouts with three. Gauthier played in the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Red Deer, AB in January, and most recently played for Team Canada at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Sweden in April. He is ranked seventh among North American Goalies in the NHL Central Scouting final draft rankings. Gauthier has attended the Program of Excellence goaltending camp previously at the under-17 and under-18 groupings.

Brennan played for the Winnipeg-based Rink Hockey Academy (RHA) in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League. Brennan played in 21 games for RHA at the Midget Prep level, posting a 12-5-1 (W-L-T) record, to go along with a 2.69 GAA and a .909 SV%. He also had two shutouts. The 6'2, 185-pound netminder suited up for Team Manitoba at the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB in February. Brennan was the Cougars' first-round pick, 21st overall, in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.
