Arizona Rattlers News Release

PHOENIX - As a two-time Ironman of the Year award winner and ArenaBowl XI champion, Randy Gatewood has made many media appearances throughout his 12-year career. However, the table will be turned this Friday night in Los Angeles as Gatewood joins the media as color analyst for ESPN Radio 860 KMVP's live broadcast of the game between the Rattlers and Avengers.

"It'll be my debut, but it should be fun," he said. "I'm very familiar with the league and very familiar with the Avengers, so it's just going to be a matter of me getting on the air and being comfortable. But I'm excited; I can't wait."

Gatewood will sit in the broadcast booth along side the voice of the Rattlers Kent Derdivanis. The veteran play-by-play man sees potential in the radio rookie.

"Randy's very bright and articulate," Derdivanis said. "I've always felt that he would make an excellent broadcaster once his playing days were over, but hopefully that won't be for a few more years."

The Rattlers receiver is filling in for former NFL lineman Dale Hellestrae, who will return to the radio booth on Sat. Apr. 14 when the Nashville Kats visit the U.S. Airways Center. Gatewood was placed on the team's injured reserve list in mid-March and has missed the team's previous two games.

The broadcast will begin 45 minutes prior to the 7:30 p.m. PDST (MST) start time. Fans can also follow Derdivanis and Gatewood via the Internet from the Rattlers website at http://www.azrattlers.com/fanzone/gameday/.
