Schaumburg, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies collected just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Schaumburg Boomers on Friday night. Gateway squandered a solid pitching performance from Vince Molesky, who went 6.2 innings while giving up just two runs.

Lefty Gunnar Kines kept the Grizzlies (36-36) off balance all night. Kines (4-4) tossed 7.2 scoreless frames while striking out nine batters.

Molesky (4-6), who allowed just five hits in his outing, ran into trouble in the second. The Boomers (32-39) loaded the bases with one out and scratched across a run with an RBI groundout. After allowing a single in the third, Molesky would go on to retire 10 in a row.

The Grizzlies mounted their only rally in the sixth while trailing 1-0. Logan Davis began the frame with a single while Cody Livesay walked to put two runners on with nobody out. After a sac bunt, Kines bounced back to strike out Craig Massoni and Brandon Thomas to end the threat.

Schaumburg got a second run on a sac fly by Nick Oberg in the seventh. Molesky then came out of the game and was replaced by Gateway RHP Jon Pusateri, who retired all four batters he faced.

Meanwhile, Kines exited with two outs recorded in the eighth and was relieved by RHP Jake Joyce. Joyce secured the final out of the eighth.

RHP Dexter Price picked up his 10th save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Grizzlies and Boomers play the middle game of their series on Saturday night at Boomers Stadium. LHP Jon Jones (3-2, 2.95 ERA) makes the start for Gateway while the Boomers counter with RHP Brett Mabry (1-2, 4.03 ERA). First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.

The game can be heard on the Grizzlies Radio Network, which airs Saturday on 1400 AM KJFF, 94.3 FM/1570 AM WBGZ, and online at www.GatewayGrizzlies.com/Radio. Sam Levitt has the play-by-play call.
