Gary Sanchez Named SAL Player of the Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston RiverDogs catcher/designated hitter Gary Sanchez has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for June 13-19, the league announced Monday.

Sanchez finished the season's first half with a flurry, going 11-for-22 (.500) with four doubles, a home run, three RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. The 18-year old Dominican Republic product is batting .267 with five home runs and 25 RBI on the campaign.

Rated the No. 2 prospect in the Yankees organization by Baseball America, Sanchez has been especially good in the month of June. The 6-2, 220-pound backstop is hitting at a .349 clip (15-for-43) with a home run and four RBI, to raise his average by almost 60 points.

The RiverDogs enjoy a three-day respite for the SAL All-Star break before beginning the second half with a four-game series against the Kannapolis Intimidators on Thursday, June 23, at 7:05 p.m.
