Adirondack Phantoms News Release
(PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 16, 2002) - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League announced today that James Garino has been named the team's Vice President. In that role, he will oversee all day-to-day business activities of the Phantoms, including sales, marketing, advertising, public relations, finance and scheduling.
Garino, 32, comes to the Phantoms from General Sports & Entertainment, where he was the Vice President of Executive Placement for the Rochester, Mich.-based firm. Prior to joining General Sports, Garino served as Manager of Global Sales & Marketing at ISL Worldwide, overseeing global sales initiatives for the ATP Masters Series.
"Jim is a welcome addition to the Phantoms front office," said Phantoms Chief Operating Officer Frank Miceli. "His background is very impressive and clearly made him stand out from the other candidates. The Phantoms staff looks forward to working alongside Jim and growing with him as our new Vice President."
Originally from Montclair, N.J., Garino began his career in the sports world in 1995 as Executive Director of Sales & Marketing for the expansion New Mexico Scorpions of the Western Professional Hockey League, twice earning WPHL Corporate Sales Executive of the Year honors.
He moved on to become General Manager of another WPHL expansion club, the Corpus Christi IceRays, in 1998 and helped the team lead the league that season in corporate sales, ticket sales, merchandise sales and concessions per cap.
Garino graduated from Connecticut College in 1992 with a degree in philosophy, while leading the Camels to the 1990 ECAC hockey championship as their starting goaltender. He and his wife Sarah will be permanently relocating into the area shortly.
The Phantoms return to action this Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the First Union Spectrum. Tickets prices for Phantoms home games are $18, $17 and $13 for adults, and $8 for children 14 and under. The team also offers group rates, Game Plans, attractive premium area seating, birthday party and youth hockey packages, and the popular Family Value Pack.
